Why Veterans to Farmers Matters

Veterans to Farmers helps assist veterans to assimilate effectively, productively, and permanently into private citizenry through agricultural training and education. Veteran classmates work alongside each other, learning new skills and experiencing the grounding effects of the farm.

The Veterans to Farmers program provided me with the training, tools and support to reinvent myself and turn my life around. The VTF training exposed me to what it takes to be a professional production farmer and what to expect day to day on the job. Throughout the sessions we visited local farms to get exposure to various small-scale agriculture operations. I soon met many Colorado farmers and people involved with local food production, distribution, and education. I enjoyed networking with farmers and gaining valuable resources at every session. I am now fully vested in localizing food sources to reduce overall consumption of fuels. I feel that I am working towards a better, cleaner world and am now able to contribute passionately.

"I've heard it said in the Veteran community that Veteran love is the best medicine and I couldn't agree more. The amazing farming education aside, Veterans to Farmers offers that camaraderie that many of us are lacking after getting out of the service. Through VTF, lasting bonds form and we find the community we've been seeking. The bountiful knowledge coupled with the hands-on approach gives us the tools to be successful in whatever course our lives take after the program. In my case, I was just offered an acre of land to play with, with complete creative liberties. I am incredible grateful for Veterans to Farmers and all of the beautiful people involved that make it the amazing program it is.

I strongly urge Veterans to consider Veterans to Farmers. It could be life altering."

"I would like to say a sincere Thank You for making the Veterans to Farmer’s indoor agriculture course a possibility. Participating in this course gave me the opportunity to gain hands on experience working in a greenhouse. In addition, working with other veterans and hearing narratives that mirrored my own, has created a bigger sense of purpose for starting my urban farm."
