Have you gotten lost daydreaming about your backyard garden covered with raised beds overflowing with peppers, salad greens, and more? Maybe it’s the fascination of how a plant works , or learning how to operate a hydroponic system! Or... finally learning to save your very 

own seeds year after year. 

 

Our Urban Farmer Series is for the veteran family with a backyard that’s ready to farm and ready to learn! 


All classes are - Free - for veterans and their guests

***A refundable $5 fee is charged to hold your seat***

Urban Farmer Series Topics

Urban Farming and Raised Bed Gardens (4 hrs.)  

In this class from the Urban Farmer Series, we will cover all the essential information needed to build and care for your very own raised beds. We will discuss topics like what to build from, when and where to plant your favorite fruits and vegetables, and how to care for your garden. The goal of this class is to get comfortable with raised beds and help make you a happy Urban Farmer!

- Raised Bed Gardening – March 23rd - 12 PM-4 PM




Urban Farming and The Art of Seed Saving (4 hrs.)

In this class from the Urban Farmer Series, you will adventure into the enchanting world of seeds! Often undervalued, but never more important than now, seeds are the start of every farm. We will use our time together to unpack the knowledge and know-how needed to start saving and adapting your very own seeds. We will cover topics from the history of seeds to understanding the current seed market as well as basic terminology, germination testing, and a hands-on seed-saving experience.

Urban Farming and Garden Botany (4 hrs.)

In this class from the Urban Farmer Series, we will investigate topics like, where plants evolved from and why that matters. We will explore subjects like the basic functions of photosynthesis, how plants move nutrients using vascular tissue, the effects of plant hormones, and much more. These insights are often some of the most illuminating discoveries to take your farm game to the next level.  This class is meant to introduce the gardener and plant enthusiast to the fascinating world of how plants function. No prior botany is needed.

- Introduction to  Garden Botany – July 19th - 12 PM - 4 PM





Urban Farming and Intro to Hydroponics  (4 hrs.)

In this class from the Urban Farmer Series, we will investigate the history of hydroponics and how you might participate in such an exciting manner of cultivating food. We will discuss topics like various growing systems, tools, and terminology, grow media, plant nutrition, and more. 

As we navigate the future challenges of feeding ourselves both here on earth and beyond, hydroponics will most certainly play a role in the solution. Besides, nobody wants to only eat potatoes on Mars…
